Buffett announced that he planned to give more than 80 percent of his wealth to charitable foundations; in 2020, he increased the amount to 99 percent. Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation which was established by Bill Gates and Melinda (the Microsoft founder) was the main beneficiary. The foundation was focused on global health and education. Bill and Buffett had been in contact since the 1990s. The three Buffett children, as well as the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation (named after his wife) were among those that received donations. They were focused on women's reproductive rights, funded scholarships for college students, and also other charities. The Giving Pledge was an invitation for other wealthy people to give a large portion of their assets to charities that was created by Buffett and Gates in 2010.
